But overall, I guess I enjoy confusion a little more than being insulted by the stupidity of what I’m watching, which is overall what happens with most anime.

I just can’t bring myself to care about any of it – the first series was intimidating in its length and went off on trippy tangents, but there were at least three romantic couples to root for, and despite the fact that Renton infuriated me at points, he did at least grow up a little by the end.

This though has something important missing, and I can’t put my finger on what it is. It still looks nice, the soundrack is great but it just feels as though it’s trying too hard. I’m sure there’s a great narrative in there somewhere, but I can’t see it for the noise.

You’re right, I can’t decide. I think Mr. X is the most entertaining, but not the one with the most ~heart~

I’m both taken and disgusted by VP’s business-like attitude and 180.

Choux Creme is the Nice Guy.

But it’s not a real harem until fisticuffs break out over the Best Girl.

Well, always the contrarian, you. I guess I can see what you mean about some of these hooks. For instance, there’s Taichi developing a bit of a thing for Sawa, and the photo moment was on of the best bits in the series. But I guess I thought leaving it unspoken was an intentional trick to add depth — or at least a trick to leave something up in the air for a movie or OVA.

You could watch worse, but I dare anyone to want to see it again.

I’m planning to at least. I think this is one of those stories that could be exactly what you say it is, but it can also be a lot more. At least, it’s like seeing all these plugs and hooks but you’re not sure what they’re for. I’m planning to find out.
